Monument Real Estate Monument Homes and Land
The city of Monument was incorporated on June 2, 1870. Once known for its ranches and potato farming it is now better know for its quiet, country setting which offers some of the most spectacular Front Range views available. It is also popular because of its easy access to I-25, with the north end of Colorado Springs only 10 minutes away and downtown Colorado Springs less than 25 minutes. Commuters to Denver often see it as an ideal location.
SCHOOLS Lewis Palmer School District No. 38 serves the Monument area. There are five elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school for over 5,500 students. In addition to the core curriculum, all district schools offer programs to meet the unique learning needs of students that qualify for Special Education, Gifted and Talented services and for those students that speak languages other than English. Indicators of student learning, as measured by state and national tests, confirm that District 38 results have been among the highest in the state.
Lewis-Palmer District 38 is situated at the northern end of El Paso County, approximately 20 miles north of downtown Colorado Springs and approximately 40 miles south of Denver. The district is rich in history, educating students for more than 130 years. The district encompasses Palmer Lake, Monument, Woodmoor and the northern part of the Black Forest area. Nestled at the foot of the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of 6,900 ft., Lewis-Palmer School District is situated around tremendous views of the Front Range. With quick and easy access to Interstate 25, people living in the Lewis-Palmer District can take all the advantages of mountain living with city conveniences nearby. Lewis-Palmer District 38 has grown steadily throughout the 1990’s and into the new century. It is predicted that growth will slow somewhat and that the district will not grow much beyond 8,000 students when current and future subdivisions are built out. The district has a twenty-year growth plan that is updated from time to time and needs to be reviewed yearly to monitor predictions and projections.
The Lewis-Palmer scores on the SAT are impressive, but especially so in light of the number of students taking the exams. The average Lewis-Palmer math score of 571 is particularly noteworthy and is the highest math score posted in the district over a nine-year history.
